Columbus State University has named a new Athletic Director. Todd Reeser takes over for Jay Sparks who resigned in April to become the Women’s basketball coach at Francis Marion University. Johnny Williams has served as the interim Athletic Director since that time.
A member of the Georgia State senior administration since 2009, Reeser was elevated to Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development and Sports Services in July 2013. He has guided GSU Athletics to record levels of fundraising while also taking on the responsibility of serving as sport supervisor for softball, men's and women's golf and court and sand volleyball. Reeser also oversees the equipment, sports medicine and strength and conditioning staffs.
Reeser, who originally joined Georgia State's staff as Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Development, previously spent four years as Associate A.D. for Development at Central Florida, where he oversaw record-breaking unrestricted annual support through the Golden Knights Club and a doubling of the number of athletics donors. He also led the development and implementation of priority seating plans for UCF's Bright House Networks Football Stadium and UCF Arena.
Before going to UCF in 2005, Reeser served nearly eight years (1997-2005) as assistant athletics director and director of major gifts at his alma mater, Illinois State. During that time, he was the chief athletics development officer during the university's first comprehensive fundraising campaign, and he was responsible for a successful re-seating of Redbird Arena.
He previously spent nine years at Drake (1988-97) as director of athletics development and then assistant athletics director.
Reeser began his athletics career as an intern at Southern Illinois (1986-87), and then spent one year (1987-88) as assistant director of promotions and development at Illinois State before going to Drake in November 1988.
Reeser captained the baseball team at Illinois State, where he earned his bachelor's degree in general finance in 1985. He added a master's in sports administration from St. Thomas in 1986.
A native of Chenoa, Ill., Reeser and his wife Janet have three children: Tanner, Thad and Cassidy.
