Winter Weather Worries

It has been five years since "Snowmaggedon" hit Atlanta and another winter storm is threatening the city just days before Super Bowl 53...

Governor Kemp announced the closure of state offices for tomorrow, January 29th, in 35 counties across north Georgia and metro-Atlanta.

Kemp says this storm is very similar to what happened in 2014 where roadways will not have time to dry off before they become frozen and he's working to determine if state offices will be closed on January 30th, too.

Forecasters expect frigid air to follow the one to two inches of precipitation which can cause roads to freeze and remain icy through Wednesday morning.

Governor Kemp says to remain off the roads to avoid black ice and other winter conditions.

This storm comes just days before thousands of people flood into the area for the Super Bowl.

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Mayor of Atlanta, says that they have discussed what preparations would be in place in the case of snow and ice because they have experienced a Super Bowl where it didn't turn out well because lack of preparation.

Mayor Bottoms said, "As we have prepared, we've made additional investments in equipment to help clean our sidewalks and keep our sidewalks de-iced."
