This Week's Weird News 5/9/25

A pair of creepy clown incidents, a hexagonal UFO filmed near the Mojave Desert, and an alleged alien sphere recovered from Colombia were among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this past week.

In what one hopes was not the start of a wave of incidents, creepy clowns were back in the news in a big way this past week with two troubling stories of communities being menaced by the miscreants. First, in Upstate New York, an Albany suburb was buzzing after cops arrested a man wearing a haunting harlequin mask and allegedly roaming around a neighborhood with a chainsaw. Officers were able to take the clown into custody after a brave resident actually wrestled him to the ground while calling for an onlooker to call the police. Later in the week, it was learned that a small town in Sweden has been plagued by a similarly sinister harlequin who has been terrifying children by chasing after them in public parks for the last several weeks.

A pair of stories involving oddly shaped UFOs made headlines this past week, beginning with fantastic footage of a pulsating hexagonal anomaly. The curious object was filmed near the Mojave Desert by an astonished witness who observed the oddity hover in the sky for a whopping fifteen minutes. Theories for what the eye-catching UFO could have been include the remnants of a rocket launch, a drone, or, of course, aliens. Meanwhile, a Texas couple visiting Florida had a once-in-a-lifetime vacation experience when they spotted a leaf-shaped UFO that appeared in the sky while they were driving down the highway. To their amazement, the puzzling object rotated sideways and then completely vanished.

This past week saw an unexpected update to a March viral video of a silver sphere seen landing in a Colombian field as Mexican journalist and UFO researcher Jaime Maussan revealed that he has come into possession of the puzzling object. The odd orb measures approximately twenty inches in diameter and sports a strange symbol encircled by mysterious characters seemingly spelling out a message. While Maussan marveled that the sphere may be otherworldly, more skeptical observers suggested that the 'alien object' could simply be a publicity stunt on the part of its discoverer, who happens to own a metal detector company.
