Half of Puerto Rico Is Without Electricity – While Crucial Equipment Hides in a Warehouse?

What’s going on?

Months after Hurricane Maria, close to half the population of Puerto Rico still doesn’t have electricity. Now, the governor of Puerto Rico wants the island’s public utility investigated after federal agents reported crucial rebuilding materials stashed away in a warehouse.

Transformers, metal sleeves and other key materials for rebuilding Puerto Rico’s devastated power grid were in the warehouse. FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers stormed the warehouse to seize the equipment in an armed operation first reported by The Intercept.

And their excuse is … ?

PREPA, Puerto Rico’s public utility, has denied that it purposely kept back materials that were needed to rebuild.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló said in a statement: “At a time when it is a priority to restore the power grid in Puerto Rico, I have ordered a legal analysis of this matter so that the people can have the details related to these materials and their storage.”

Glenn’s take:

The federal government has been trying to help Puerto Rico, but sending supplies doesn’t help if they aren’t used properly. Corruption needs to be rooted out first.

“’America should do something’ – we did; it’s sitting in a warehouse,” Glenn said.
