Scientists Make A Giant, Slithery Discovery

Florida scientists make a colossal capture.

This female Burmese Python is more than 17-feet long, weighs about 140-pounds and was developing 73 eggs.

A statement from the Big Cypress National Preserve says, "The python was the largest python ever taken from the area."

Most of them are between six and ten feet long.

The Cypress Rangers say new tracking technology and research led to this find.

State officials say there are roughly 100-thousand pythons in swamps outside Miami, and they pose a threat to local wildlife.
