Lady Cougars Win Peach Belt Match

COLUMBUS - The 15th-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team rolled their way past 28th-ranked Flagler 6-1 in a conference showdown Saturday. The match took place at the Walden Tennis Center. 

Columbus State (10-3, 2-0 PBC) started off on the right foot winning two of the three doubles matches to earn the opening point. Beatriz Lopez and Clara Audap teamed up at first doubles to take down 14th-ranked Paloma Martinez and Alessandra Traub 6-2. From there it was 28th-ranked Noa Davico and Luise Sachs who also picked up a 6-2 win at second doubles. Candice Paya and Natalia Kattah Paz dropped their match at third doubles 3-6. 

In singles play the Lady Cougars grabbed five wins on the six courts to dominate the Saints. 

Two matches went to a third set tiebreaker including Lopez as she split her first two sets 6-2, 5-7 before winning the tiebreaker in tight fashionat 10-9. Sachs was the other match that went three sets splitting the first two 4-6, 7-6 before falling just short in a 10-8 loss at fourth singles. 

Every other singles match resulted in a straight set Lady Cougar victory.

40th-ranked Marleen Tilgner picked up the 6-2, 7-5 win at second singles while 61st-ranked Paya cruised her way to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph. 

Davico and Paz in fifth and sixth singles each grabbed points for the Lady Cougars with Davico winning 6-4, 6-4 and Paz coming out on top 6-1, 6-2. 

Grabbing their fourth win in a row, the Lady Cougars will be right back on the courts on Sunday, March 24 to take on USC Aiken. The match is scheduled to beginat 12:00 p.m.at the Walden Tennis Center.
