Lady Cougars Claim Top Spot After Opening Day

CARROLLTON, Ga. - After the first day of the UWG Invitational, the Lady Cougars had a phenomenal performance to put them in first place overall out of six teams. The two-day tournament is being played at the Sunset Hills Country Club. 

CSU turned in their team card in the top spot after the first round and kept it that way through the 36-hole day. They scored a 293 in round one with a 305 to follow in round two for a total of 598.

The Lady Cougars sit 16 shots ahead of second place West Georgia (614). Montevallo (615), Shorter (622) and Young Harris (626) round out the top five. 

Jordan Booker was the top score for CSU and leads the entire tournament with a 36-hole total of 146. The senior fired a 73 in each of the two rounds to put her in first. She currently resides two shots ahead of her own teammate Monica Ruiz Pavon, who is in second place overall. Pavon had the best round of any player on the day registering a 72 in the opening round with a 76 to follow. 

Victoria Libaak shot a 74 in the opening round following it up with a 78 to give her a score of 152 putting her in a tie for 7th. In 16thplace is Anna Meleshkina who carded rounds of 74 and 83. 

The drop score for the Lady Cougars was Hannah Holland who recorded a total of 158 on the day but is still in 18thplace overall. 

Columbus State will look to keep their incredible pace going as the tournament concludes with one final round on Tuesday.
