Coach Greg Appleton Wins His 800th Game At CSU

By Scott Miller

Congrats to coach Greg Appleton for getting his 800th win as the Columbus State head coach. It was his 927th overall win in college. The milestone win came Sunday as the Cougars won a big road game at Georgia College, to clinch a spot in the Peach Belt Conference tournament.

Coach Appleton has led the Cougars to the 2002 National Championship, national runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2018, 11 NCAA postseason appearances, four Division II College World Series Appearances, two Peach Belt Conference regular season championships and three PBC Tournament championships.

Greg will tell you that he’s had a lot of good players and good assistant coaches. He’s right about that, and this year’s team is no exception. What he’s too modest to say is, he’s a tremendous coach who's been such a positive influence on so many people through the years.

CSU has been blessed to have him at the helm. I’m happy to call him a good friend, and have enjoyed the ride for the last 22 years with him. Here’s to many more wins and good times together, my friend.
