Kolton Ingram Selected by Tigers in MLB Draft

COLUMBUS – Columbus State University baseball player Kolton Ingram was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft Wednesday.
Ingram, the CSU all-time program leader in strikeouts, becomes the 35th Cougar to be taken in the draft. It's also the second consecutive season that Columbus State has been represented in the draft as Justin Evans was selected last season by the Miami Marlins.
"Awesome accomplishment for Kolton," commented head coach Greg Appleton. "He created some special memories for us during his time here, and he was never satisfied. Kolton was always looking for a way to become a better pitcher and it's a night-and-day difference from the first time he put on this uniform to this season. We wish him nothing but the best."
A 2018 All-American, Ingram will go down as one of the best pitchers in Columbus State history. The southpaw appeared in 66 games in his four-year career making 37 starts for the Cougars. He worked 286.2 innings while posting a 25-11 record to go along with his program best 315 strikeouts. For his career, he had a 2.76 ERA.
His best season came in 2018 when the Cougars made a run all the way to the NCAA Division II College World Series Championship game. Ingram was 14-3 in 136.1 innings with 150 strikeouts. He picked up three wins in the postseason run while allowing just two runs in his first 31 innings of work. Ingram lead the nation in both wins and strikeouts and also set new CSU single-season records in both categories.
