The United States became the first team to reach three straight
Women's World Cup finals with a 2-1 victory over England. Alex
Morgan scored the go-ahead goal and goaltender Alyssa Naeher
stopped a late penalty kick to secure the victory for the U.S.
Christen Press scored the opening goal for the U.S. in the 10th
minute after starting in place of Megan Rapinoe, who sat because of
a minor hamstring strain. England tied it in the 19th minute and
Morgan's sixth goal of the tournament put the U.S. up for good in
the 31st minute, coming on her 30th birthday. The U.S. will play
the winner of Wednesday's semifinal match between the Netherlands
and Sweden, and Rapinoe is confident she will play in Sunday's
final.
