COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University cross country program held its first practice of the season this week.

The Cougars and Lady Cougars participated in a workout at Lakebottom Park in Columbus.

"It was great to see our athletes back on the trail," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field J.D. Evilsizer. "I thought the guys performed well for the first workout."

"First days are always hard, but I thought the girls fought through it and ran well. I can't wait to see how they progress," added head women's cross country coach David Marley.

Seniors Charles Asouzu and Wright Calhoun return for the Cougars in 2019 after being named All-Peach Belt Conference runners a season ago. On the women's side, All-PBC performers Alli Hay and Macey Voorhies will also be returning. Hay finished second last season at the PBC Championship while Voorhies was named the conference's Freshman of the Year.

The season will begin on Saturday, Sept. 7 with Columbus State hosting the Cougar Classic in Smiths Station, Ala.
