Canzoneri Named National Player of the Week
By CSU Sports Information
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Columbus State University women's soccer player Carley Canzoneri was named the United Soccer Coaches Division II National Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Canzoneri and the Lady Cougar defense were excellent this past week posting consecutive shutouts. On Oct. 16, Canzoneri played a pivotal role in CSU's 1-0 victory over previously unbeaten Nova Southeastern. Never leaving the pitch, the freshman made crucial stops as the Lady Cougars blanked the top-scoring team in the nation.
On Sunday, Canzoneri helped limit USC Aiken to just five shots, three on net, in Columbus State's 9-0 victory. She also scored her first collegiate goal in the 13th minute following a corner kick.
The freshman becomes just the fourth Columbus State player to be named the DII National Player of the Week. Bria Riancho was the previous honoree earning the award on Nov. 7, 2018.
Canzoneri and Columbus State will be back in action on Wednesday taking on Albany State at 5 p.m.
