COLUMBUS - Columbus State University head softball coach Brad Huskisson released the 2020 schedule Friday.
The Cougars will play 52 games throughout the season beginning on Saturday, Feb. 1 with a doubleheader against Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, N.C.
Columbus State will begin its home portion of the slate on Feb. 14 hosting the Cougar Classic at Cougar Field.
Another important date on the calendar is Friday, April 3 as Columbus State hosts the USA Softball National Team at the South Commons Softball Complex. The games are a part of the "Stand Beside Her Tour" as Team USA gears up for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
"We can't wait for the calendar to turn to 2020," stated Huskisson. "This team likes to compete, and February can't get here soon enough."
"There are a few exciting dates this season with our exhibition with Team USA leading the way. Our team is going to have a once in a lifetime experience, and it's going to be an unbelievable moment."
Columbus State will host two early season tournaments. The Cougar Classic will take place in early February while the Red, White & Blue Classic is scheduled for the first weekend of March.
The Cougars will also compete in the Lee Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn. and the YHC Tournament in Young Harris, Ga.
Peach Belt Conference play will begin in Columbus on Thursday, March 12 against USC Aiken. Other showcase home doubleheaders include Young Harris (April 5) and North Georgia (April 21). Like in past seasons, CSU will play all other conference opponents in doubleheaders throughout the year.
The PBC Tournament will be hosted by Lander in Greenwood, S.C. on May 1 and 2. The top-eight teams will play in the single-elimination tournament.
Last season, Columbus State finished tied for second in the PBC posting a 35-16 record. The 35 wins were the most since the 2013 season.
