Japanese researchers experimented to see how cats would react to their names, in the cat's home and with their owner out of view.
They played audio recording of the cat's owner and strangers saying nouns similar to the cat's name and then actually saying the cat's name.
Most of the cats reacted when their names were spoken, moving their heads or perking their ears.
Which lead researchers to believe cats do know their names, but they ignore us when we call them to hang with us.
