Lady Cougars Win Again

CSU Sports Information - Coming off its first loss of the season, the third-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team beat Valdosta State 6-1, on Sunday. The match took place at the John W. Walden Tennis Center, in Columbus.

The Lady Cougars swept the three doubles matches Sunday, easily earning the point. Second-ranked  Beatriz Lopez  and  Marleen Tilgner  took down Estee Widdershoven and Eva Rivoal 6-1 at the top spot. In second doubles, it was  Candice Paya  and  Natalia Kattah Paz  who won their match 6-3. In the third doubles match,  Clara Audap  and  Luise Sachs  teamed up to win 6-4. 

Columbus State kept things rolling in singles play winning five of the six singles in straight sets. It was 25th-ranked Tilgner who got the nod at the top spot and dominated Widdershoven 6-0, 6-2. In the third position, 46th-ranked Paya came away with the 6-2, 6-2 victory. The Lady Cougars got a strong showing from 10th-ranked Sachs who defeated Rivoal 6-3, 6-0 in straight sets. 

Paz went up against one of her doubles opponents in Hera Bjork and came away with a 6-1, 6-2 win while Audap finished the point tallies for Columbus State winning in the sixth spot 6-0, 6-1.

The Lady Cougars will be on the road on Saturday, Feb. 16 taking on top-ranked Barry in Orlando, Fla. The matches will begin at 9 a.m.
