LAS VEGAS - Columbus State University tennis coach Evan Isaacs was named the 2019 Steve Wilkinson College Coach of the Year by the United States Professional Tennis Association. The awards luncheon was held at the USPTA World Conference in Las Vegas.
Isaacs is in his 19th season at Columbus State serving as the head coach for both the men's and women's teams. He has transformed CSU into a national powerhouse, including leading the men's team to the 2018 NCAA Division II national championship.
"This is such an amazing honor, and I'm truly humbled by the recognition," commented Isaacs. "This wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for the hard work and dedication from my former players and all of my assistants throughout the years as well as my loving children, Jessie and Kendall, and my wife Michelle Christine Isaacs."
"The Columbus community has rallied around this program over the last few years, and I would like to thank them for their support as well."
Taking over the program in 2002, Isaacs hit the ground running. He has taken the women's team to the NCAA Tournament every year since, including to back-to-back national semifinal appearances in 2018 and 2019.
In addition to the national title on the men's side, Isaacs has developed the Cougars into one of the premier teams across all NCAA levels. CSU has made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances with Isaacs at the helm, including its second straight national championship match appearance in 2019.
Isaacs has a combined 685 victories while coaching 49 All-Americans, 110 All-Peach Belt Conference performers, and six PBC Players of the Years. In addition, Isaacs has been named the PBC Coach of the Year seven times.
Last year, Isaacs was named the Wilson Intercollegiate Tennis Association's National Coach of the Year.
