AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Columbus State University men's basketball program was selected fifth in the preseason Peach Belt Conference coaches poll announced by the league office Thursday.

After a 13-16 season a year ago, the Cougars tallied 71 points to earn a top-five ranking in the poll. Augusta was tabbed as the preseason favorite with 116 points with UNC Pembroke (111), USC Aiken (106), and Francis Marion (77) sitting in front of CSU.

Led by 10th-year head coach Robert Moore, Columbus State returns nine seniors for the 2019-20 season, including four out of the top five leading scorers. Preseason All-PBC selection Landrius Horton will look to pace the offense after averaging 15.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in his junior season. The senior led the PBC in rebounding while ranking inside the top-30 in the nation.

Bryant Givens, who led the Cougars in scoring (15.6 PPG) and assists per game (6.0), will also return as the floor general for Moore. The senior finished 10th in the league in scoring and had two 30-point performances, including a career-high 37 points against Georgia Southwestern.

Jalen Thomas (11.5 PPG, 3.1 assists/game) and Stanley Taylor (8.9 PPG) also return for Columbus State.
