COLUMBUS - Recently, the Columbus State University baseball program volunteered at the Legends for Youth Clinic presented by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association. The free clinic took place at Fort Benning.

The Cougars spent the day teaching the fundamentals of the game to the future baseball stars of the Chattahoochee Valley.

CSU players also took part in training exercises that new ranger recruits are required to undertake.

Former MLB players were at the event which was organized by Detroit Tiger All-Star Willie Horton. Current Detroit outfielder Niko Goodrum was also on hand signing autographs for the attendees.

"We are so thankful that we were asked to participate in this wonderful event," commented head Columbus State baseball coach Greg Appleton. "The guys had a blast with the kids, and it was a great day all around. Anytime that you get to give back to the community is special and we can't do enough to thank everyone who supports Cougar Baseball."

The Legends for Youth Clinic Series is a charitable program running more than 180 free events each year worldwide. Its mission is to promote the game of baseball to youth using positive sports images and personalities.
